We live in a heavily treed community. Shade is everywhere. Now this is normally a great situation in the deep south – but it plays havoc when trying to grow veggies. Our backyard only has an area of about 15 ft by 15ft were sun is available for 6 or more hours a day. My hubby and I thought that vertical gardening would help our situation. . .
We started by looking for workable ideas to elevate a garden, we didn’t have to look long as we found a great solution at the local nursery, tables.
Now these tables were nothing fancy, simple 2 x 4 frames with a metal mesh as a table top.
My hubby dusted off his tools and went to work.
The frame took about 4 hours to cut and put together (its been a looong time since he has done this kind of work). We placed some planters on top to see how it works and discovered that gardening on a table top was not only a great way to increase our planting areas but was a lot easier on our old backs. We’re sold on container gardening (we just need to figure out how to get a bigger harvest).
