The Rest of the Story

Thanks to Hurricane Gustav we awoke this morning to no electricity.  No electricity means no coffee, no news, no air conditioning, no computer, etc.  Now some of these we have learned to live without but starting the day without coffee is just not acceptable.

Many years ago we were backpackers and as such we discovered Sterno.  Sterno is a jelly type substance that comes in a small can.  When you pop the top off and light the Sterno it provides a way to heat food, and make coffee.

This is a Sterno stove.

The front lowers and you put the can of Sterno inside the stove and close the front.

Now the Sterno can be lit and the camp cup with water is placed on top until heated.

Now, granted the coffee is instant, but beggars can’t be choosers.

Since Gustav turned out to be not as powerful a storm as predicted, we spent the day on the front porch watching the wind and rain blow through.

In the afternoon there was a break in the storm and we took a walk around to view the damage, if any.

Just a lot of branches, leaves and a couple of trees down.

The road to our house was under water at one spot.

And there are always sightseers driving around checking the results of the storm.

And then to really make our day, the electricity came on tonight.  Thank you , Lord!!
