Peace and Quiet At Home-NOT!

We live in the woods, in the middle of a bird sanctuary.  We are miles from the freeway and have a limited number of neighbors because we live at the end of a cul-de-sac.  So you would think our home would be quiet, but you would be wrong.

For the last year we have been bombarded with bird noises, all day and all night.  For awhile the birds sound nice and cute but the constant cacophony begins to grate on the nerves, especially during the sleeping hours.

We have lived here for over 10 years and …this is a new problem, but many things have changed since Hurricane Katrina blew through.

Before Katrina our neighborhood was overrun with cats-feral cats.  One of our neighbors would put out food for the cats but they were allowed to run wild.  Katrina got rid of all the cats, so they are no longer a problem and this (I think) is where the problem lies.

I think the wild cats helped control the bird population in this area.  Now that the cats are gone the birds are going crazy.  Chirping constantly.

We have given up trying to sleep in one of our bedrooms-it is just too noisy-and have moved to the other side of the house.  Now we are searching for some sort of bird repellant.  Any ideas?

I saw a sonic repeller but the price was over $10,000.  As much as I want the birds removed I don’t think we will be buying this.

I also saw a whirlybird type of repeller.  It is blown by the wind and twirls round and round to keep the birds away, sort of like a scarecrow.  I just wonder if the birds would see it at night.  Not sure about this.

So I don’t know what the answer is to this problem but I am open to any suggestions you may have.  Any ideas???

South Carolina doesn’t have this problem with birds. You could always relocate. 🙂

But you guys have barking dogs-I guess every place has its own problems!!

However, if the opportunity ever presents itself, you will need to make room for us!
