Attention Gardeners and Organic Enthusiasts

I have recently come across some very effective natural formulas for treating bugs and killing weeds.

In the book “Bug Off” by Jerry Baker he gives a potion that he calls a lethal weapon tonic.  Jerry recommends this tonic as a treatment for ants and aphids.

Lethal Weapon Tonic

3 Tbsp. of garlic and onion juice*
3 Tbsp. of skim milk
2 Tbsp. of baby shampoo
1 tsp. of hot sauce
1 gal. of water

Mix all of these ingredients in a bucket.
You can use them in a spray bottle or garden sprayer.
I have found that this will deter almost all bugs.
None of them like the smell.

*To make garlic and onion juice, put 2 cloves of garlic, 2 medium onions, and 3 cups of water in a blender and puree.
Strain out the solids and pour the remaining liquid into a jar.  Use this mixture in the Lethal Weapon Tonic.
Bury the solids in your garden to repel most pesky bugs.

Another repellant I have found handy is this mosquito repellant.  Most bugs, including mosquitoes, do not like the smell of lemons.

Mix lemon ammonia and lemon dish soap in a 50/50 solution and spray around the area where you are working.  This really works and since it is non-toxic you can spray as often as needed.

I also found this potion for an herbicide.  This recipe is from the Little House in the Suburb blog.

Ivory’s Non-Selective Herbicide

2c vinegar
1 T liquid soap
1 T salt
Dog cone

Mix first three ingredients in spray bottle. Will kill anything it touches. Place doggie cone over weeds. Spray, don’t pour or nothing will grow there for a while.

The author says this herbicide will kill anything it touches but she does not live in the deep south.  It does kill most things but we have weeds that defy any herbicide, and with this potion the weeds win!

I hope you find these potions helpful.  I did!
