We had such a lovely spring that our garden took off quickly and before we knew it we were in desperate need of a trellis for the cucumbers.
At first I ran string from the pots to the nearby bushes but it wasn’t long before the cucumbers wanted to spread their tendrils in the bushes. We had to do something quickly so we made this very flimsy trellis. It doesn’t look like much but it sure does the job.
When the squash started growing so fast we knew we had to do something better.
My husband is planning on putting in a fence later this year (when it cools down a bit) and so he decided the new trellis would be a good place to practice.
The trellis is built out of 2×4’s and is about 6 feet tall with 2 feet buried in the ground.
We ran string from the bottom rung over the top and repeated this about 6 times to give just enough support for the tender squash plants and still be strong enough for the beans which are starting to come up.
3 sections each about 4 feet wide and 6 feet tall.
Now our little squash will have something to support them.
My hubby did a great job on this trellis and and our plants love it. I don’t think we will need to worry about it blowing over in a storm.
