Whenever I get a custom order I have to ask for measurements. It is very important that the child be measured correctly or the customer will not be happy with their purchase. With that in mind I thought I would explain how to get accurate measurement.
Taking Children’s Measurements
Children grow so fast. It is important to take their measurements accurately and often so clothing will fit correctly. Using a tape measure is best but you can also use a piece of string that will not stretch. Refer to sketch below for accurate placement of tape measure.
The top dashed line is the Chest/Bust: Have the child stand straight wearing underwear. Place the tape measure or string at the fullest part of chest/bust under armpits. Keep the tape measure or string snug, not tight.
The second dashed line is the Waist: Have the child stand straight. Place tape measure or string over the underwear at the narrowest part. Keep the tape measure or string snug, not tight.
The bottom dashed line is the Hip: Have the child stand straight. Place the tape measure over underwear at the fullest part of seat/hip. Keep the tape measure or string snug, not tight.
To get an accurate Length: Have the child stand straight and measure from the top of the shoulder (A) to the desired length-(B) knee length, (C) tea length or (D) ankle length.
A few pointers:
Purchase clothing by measurements, not by age.
Measure with a tape measure. Do not use rulers.
If using a string simply measure the string after placing it around the body.
If the child measures a combination of sizes always order the larger size. This allows for growing room.
Hope these pointers help you get proper fitting clothing for your little ones.
