Sewing Lessons

August 18, 2010

A few weeks ago a friend from church asked  me to consider giving 2 of her daughters sewing lessons.  I thought it would be an interesting ministry and a challenge.  I love the thought of sewing, which is becoming a dying art, being passed on to future generations.  I wish my granddaughters lived close enough to join us!

Here are my 2 budding seamstresses:

Mia

and Emma

Basic Blue Beauty

August 9, 2010

Working on prayer shawls has become the new love of my life.  It is very relaxing in the evening to sit and crochet and look forward to sharing my work with its new owner.  The shawls vary in difficulty and, therefore, the time it takes to create them, but they keep my busy.

My newest shawl is done in a super, soft, beautiful, blue chenille yarn.  It is soft to the touch and warm and comforting.

The color of a prayer shawl has specific meaning for the wearer.  Read the rest of this entry »

Dark Rose Beauty

August 4, 2010

Prayer shawls have become a favorite item for me to create.  I just love watching the shawl take shape and having a chance to share the joy of praying for a perspective buyer that I do not know.

The most recent shawl I finished came out absolutely beautiful.  This shawl is done is acrylic yarn in a dark rose color.

I love the balanced pattern and scalloped edges.

This shawl measures 60 inches by 66 inches and is completely machine washable.

The deep rose color will be a lovely accent piece with almost any decor.

This shawl would be a lovely addition to your home or it would make a beautiful gift.  Be sure to check it out in my store.

A New Addition

June 21, 2010

Coming Soon to Patti’s Originals our newest addition-Prayer Shawls.  Prayer Shawls or Comfort Shawls, as some call them, begin in the heart of the creator.  Each shawl is created with a prayer for the user.  These shawls are then sent to the recipient with a prayer that their needs, concerns, challenges or trials will be blessed.

I have been working on creating a variety of shawls that range in styles and uses.  These shawls would make a great gift for anyone.  They will range in color, size and style, so there will be something available for everyone.

Some of the shawls will have a dual use, such as; a shawl for an expectant mom that becomes a blanket for the new baby or a shawl that can also be used as a lap rug.  I am hoping to include a few capelets which are great for sitting around the house on cool winter evenings.

For those who plan ahead, I will also take special orders so the shawl can be created in your choice of colors.  These shawls take lots of time to create so be sure to order early.

I am very excited about this new addition and look forward to creating more prayer shawls to keep the variety interesting.  Stay tuned as I will be posting photos of the completed products soon.

A May Day Program

April 26, 2010

St. John’s Day School in Laurel, MS is planning a May Day program.  Each grade performs different songs and wears
costumes to match.  One of the classes contacted me about outfits for the 9 girls in the class.

The parent in charge thought it would be cute if she selected 3 different pink fabrics and I created dresses for 3 of the girls out if each fabric.  She selected these three fabrics:

My studio has been covered in pink for the last week while working on these outfits.

The hardest part was keeping Read the rest of this entry »

Lest She Thinks She Is Forgotten

April 5, 2010

I am always posting about the creations I make for my youngest granddaughter, Lauren, but this week I took the time to make a skirt for my other granddaughter, Lydia.

Lydia is 16 years old and she is pretty easy to find clothing for in the stores, therefore, we usually buy more of her clothing.  I came across this fabric last year and it is such a pretty, Hawaiian print that I thought it would make Lydia a lovely skirt.

This fabric is a stretch poplin Read the rest of this entry »
